LCDR Nicole Cuthbertson, USN

Lieutenant Commander Cuthbertson is a native of Miramar, Florida. Following graduation from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2005, she decided to pursue a second Bachelors degree in Nursing at the University of South Florida. Upon graduation in 2007, she was commissioned as an Ensign and reported to National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) in Bethesda, MD.

Her distinguished career includes clinical and leadership positions at the National Naval Medical Center, U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), Naval Hospital Rota and the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC). During her first tour, she served as a Medical-Surgical and Ambulatory Care nurse for two years and was later hand-selected to fill a high-priority overseas billet in Okinawa, Japan. Upon the completion of her first overseas tour in 2011, she reported to Naval Medical Center San Diego as a Emergency Department charge nurse and team leader. In 2013, she was selected to deploy to Helmand Province, Afghanistan with the II MEF, 2nd MLG, 2nd Medical Battalion as the senior emergency nurse for the Shock Trauma Platoon and Forward Resuscitative Surgical System.

During her assignment at NMCSD, she held the position as the charge nurse, Emergency Department and Division Officer and Clinic Manager, Pulmonary Medicine clinic. She attended graduate school full-time and completed her Master of Science in Nursing in 2014. She transferred to Naval Hospital Rota in 2015 and served as the senior nurse and educator for the Emergency Department. At FHCC, she served as Asst. Department Head and Senior Nurse Officer, Branch Health Clinic Tranquillity and currently serves as the Clinical Nurse Educator and Program Manager for the Emergency Department.

Lieutenant Commander Cuthbertson’s personal decorations include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star), NATO Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and numerous other service awards. She resides in North Chicago, IL with her daughter.
