Commander Shaun E. Dennis
Commanding Officer, USS STERETT (DDG 104)

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Commander Dennis enlisted in the Navy June 16th, 1992 as an Electrician’s Mate. His enlisted duty assignments include USS GUADALCANAL (LPH 7), USS MERRIMACK (AO-179) and Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT).

Commissioned under the Enlisted Commissioning Program, he attended Old Dominion University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in December 2003.

Afloat, CDR Dennis completed his Division Officer tours aboard USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) as the Assistant Damage Control Assistant/Personnel Officer and USS ROSS (DDG 71) as the Fire Control Officer. He completed his Department Head tours aboard
USS STOUT (DDG 55) as the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer followed by a tour as the Strike Officer for Commander Carrier Strike Group Twelve. He later served as Executive Officer onboard USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55).

Ashore, Commander Dennis served as the Assistant Professor of Naval Science at Auburn and Tuskegee University Consortium in Auburn, Alabama and Action Officer in the office of The Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower & Reserve Affairs in Washington, D.C. He has graduated with a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.
