Col Barron Taylor, USMC

barronColonel Taylor currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Fleet Marine Force Colonel Taylor graduated recruit training from Parris Island, South Carolina in the fall of 1989. Upon completion of Marine Combat Training and the Administrative Clerk Course, Private First Class Taylor was assigned the MOS of 0151, Administrative Clerk.

During his enlisted tenure, he attained the rank of Sergeant and served in various CONUS and overseas billets such as Files and Directives Clerk, Inspector, Order’s Chief, and Separations Chief. Additionally, during 1990, he deployed to Southwest Asian support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Provide Comfort.

In January of 1997, he was selected for the Meritorious Commissioning Program and ordered to Officer Candidates School (OCS), Quantico, Virginia in January of 1997.

Upon completion of OCS and The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Taylor was assigned the MOS 0180, Adjutant and further ordered to attend the basic Adjutant’s Course and was subsequently transferred to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune where he served as the Battalion Adjutant and Legal Officer.

In June of 2000, First Lieutenant Taylor was transferred to the Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego where he served in a myriad of assignments as a Series Commander, Regimental Adjutant, and Company Executive Officer. During his tenure he was promoted to Captain.
In July of 2003, Captain Taylor was transferred to 3d Marine Division, Okinawa Japan where he served as the Division Adjutant. He participated in such large-scale exercises as Yama Sukura, MEFEX, Ulchi Focus Lens, and Cobra Gold.

In August of 2005, Captain Taylor attended Expeditionary Warfare School and was subsequently transferred to Headquarters, U. S. Marine Corps where he served as the Operations Officer, Semper Fit Branch, Personal & Family Readiness (MR) Division. During this assignment, he participated in the OCS Summer Augmentation program from 2006 to 2009 serving as a Platoon Commander and Company Commander. During his tour he was promoted to Major. 

In February of 2010, Major Taylor was transferred to I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton  where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Deputy AC/S, C/G-1, Regional Command Southwest (RC(SW)/ I MEF (Forward). Upon his return in April of 2011, Major Taylor was reassigned to 1st Marine Division where he served as the Deputy AC/S, G-1; AC/S, G-1, and Staff Secretary. In the summer of 2013, he was transferred to MCRD San Diego and assumed duties as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1 , Marine Corps Recruit Depot/Western Region and, shortly after reporting, promoted to his current rank and slated for battalion command aboard MCRD. Lieutenant Colonel Taylor commanded First Recruit Training Battalion from June 2015 until June 2017. From 2017 – 2018, He is attended the Marine Corps War College and earned a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies. Upon graduation, Lieutenant Colonel Taylor was assigned to the Manpower and Personnel Directorate, J1, Joint Staff where he served as Branch Chief for Operations. In June 2020, he was transferred to Okinawa, Japan and assumed his current assignment. In July 2020, he was promoted to his current rank.

Colonel Taylor’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Colonel Taylor is married to the former Adzekai Kuma of Torrance, CA and together they have three children: Barron II (28), 2ndLt Darius Quinn USAF (26), Summer (22) and one grandchild, Eerika.

Colonel Taylor is a proud lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated as well as a Lifetime Member of the National Naval Officers Association.
