PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

 DEKALB COUNTY SCHOOLS                                         Stone Mountain, Georgia

Instructor – Senior Naval Science (NJROTC)                                   2006 to 2011

Planned and executed class curriculum at Stephenson High School (4 years) and Southwest DeKalb (1 year), teaching 3 classes a day and directing extra-curricular activities, including Drill, Color Guard, Academic Team, and Orienteering. Directed the day-to-day programs, with a focus on student safety. As a Navy-certified Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI), reported to Naval Command for all military evolutions, including drill meets and budget matters (issuance of uniforms, rifles, and computer equipment).

 Ensured key subjects were addressed in classroom (e.g., citizenship, orientation, naval history, naval operations/organization, seamanship and leadership) with up to 200 cadets each year.

 Concentrated on developing and applying leadership principles by preparing for drill meets and inspections and leading the cadets in the unit.

 Consistently passed annual inspection and received honors; awarded Unit Achievement Award, first time at Stephenson High School in program’s 10 year history.

 Planned college trips for 11th – 12th Grades (up to 30 students twice a year; also planned Military Orientation trips 3 times a year, with responsibility for budgets and on-site supervision (included trips to all Armed Forces Commands).

AIR WAR COLLEGE (Maxwell Air Force Base)                   Montgomery, Alabama

Faculty Member, Captain (O6), Department of Leadership & Ethics 2004 to 2006

Developed and instructed curriculum in Leadership and Ethics for over 250 Senior Officers in all U.S. military services and 40 International Military Officers. Served as Course Director for the department,  with direct responsibility for course content for 60+ hours of graduate-level education, including professional case studies and experiential learning. Provided day-to-day supervision and taught Ethics to 15-20 Senior Officers; mentored 2 to 3 students conducting graduate research each school year.

 Functioned as Program Manager, Survey Administrator and Feedback Coach for the Air Force’s 360 Degree Assessment Program, The Leadership Mirror; facilitated Train-the-Trainer classroom environment for 80 Senior Officers.

   Provided key role in developing and revising Leadership and Ethics curriculum.

    Awarded Legion of Merit for dedication to improving the leadership and ethics for senior Military Leadership.

UNITED STATES NAVY, RETIRED

Commander Denise Jacqueline McCallaCreary is President & Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaican American Association of Northern California (JAANC), a small community non-profit organization serving the Jamaican American community in Northern California. She served 27 years in the Navy and is now living her best life as a Domestic Engineer, volunteering, and pursuing an acting career in film and television.

She is a native of Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. She enlisted in the Naval Reserves in October 1973, and served as an Aviation Storekeeper at Naval Air Station, Glenview, Illinois. After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and Spanish from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago in 1978, she entered active duty. She accepted Temporary Active duty (TEMAC) assignment with the Navy Recruiting District, Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the Recruiting District’s community relations Petty Officer serving on their “Navy Angels” team. For excellence in support of recruiting in that assignment, she was awarded the Recruiting Gold wreath. During this assignment, she applied and was selected to attend Officer Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island. She was commissioned an Ensign in November 1979.
